When Jeff went down this morning to feed them he noticed that there weren’t any baby discus in the tank.

I guess we’ll have to move the next batch of babies out sooner.

The first batch of discus is still doing good – one or two of them are nickel size now.

Hopefully we’ll rearrange some tanks and get them moved so we’ll have some space for the next batch of discus.

Discus eggs on a clay flowerpot

The eggs are on a clay pot, which is the preferred egg laying site.

This was the first or second batch of eggs after Papa Discus’s out of water experience, so they didn’t last long. I think that the discus ate these eggs, although with one batch they did wait until the fry hatched, and then ate the fry.

We do have another batch of fry that hatched this morning, and they’re still doing ok.

When Jeff went to feed the discus this morning the female was watching the fry, and the male was up at the front of the tank waiting for some food.

And they were in exactly the same place when I just went to check on them.

Hopefully these guys will make it.
