New Green Spotted Puffers

Posted by Sarah on February 4, 2010

I finally gave in and got 2 green spotted puffers from the only local store we haven’t tried yet.

The fish looked healthy when we were there, so we waited a few days, and went back and got 2.

We couldn’t find someone from the fish department to help us, and the person we found wouldn’t let us pick out the fish, so we ended up with one that died the night we got it home.

The other fish seems to be doing well in our 55 gallon tank, but I have seen a little blackness on his belly.

I really hope this guy makes it.

Of course he’s not going too.

While I was writing this post we had company – after they left I went to feed the fish, and the puffer is dead.

Fish can be so depressing sometimes.

8-Ball

Posted by Sarah on October 7, 2009

It’s been a sad week.

The last of the chameleon eggs went bad, and 8-Ball, our Figure 8 puffer died.

He seemed to be doing great, and eating well, so I’m really not sure what happened.

8-Ball was the one remaining puffer we had, and I hoped that he would be around for a long time.

I guess some things aren’t meant to be.

Fishy Push Presents

Posted by Sarah on September 5, 2009

What does it say about me that I’d rather have these avacodo puffers than any other type of push present that I can think of?

I don’t really want a push present, the puffers are already out of my price range even if I did, and the last thing we need with a baby girl due in less than 2 months is more fish, although Jeff thought she should have her own fish tank when we first found out we were pregnant.

I think that’s changed though, at least for now.

In case you don’t know – a push present is something you get during or shortly after labor to thank you for pushing the baby out.

I’ve heard of jewelry, trips, spa visits, and all sorts of push presents, but I’ve never heard of fishy push presents.

Have you?

Do You Try to Scare Your Fish?

Posted by Sarah on June 12, 2009

Someone found the site while they were searching for information about how to scare their puffer.

Do you scare your fish?

I don’t normally try to scare the fish – if I think they are dead I might get the net out and check, and I’m sure that scares them.

I also show the bettas the mirror so they can get some excercise by flaring at it, and while that might scare them, I’m not really sure.

Have you ever tried to scare your fish?

I just realized this person probably wants the puffer to puff up, but I don’t think that normally happens unless something is wrong.

8-ball didn’t even puff up when he jumped out of the bowl we were transporting him in when we moved him from one tank to another.

Of course that’s a good thing since puffing up out of water can be bad for the puffers, and since I don’t know how to treat that I’d have to waste time looking it up online.

Hopefully I’ll never have to know.

Have you ever seen your puffer puff?
